Overnight bus from Palenque to Merida. Busy day ahead so we bust out of the terminal and head to yet another Lonely planet recommendation. According to them its "breezy rooms, lovely courtyard without a hint of stufiness" one word: GRIM
Good cash was paid out for that joke to get such a write up.
We go off piste as we dont have much time and pay out for a hotel. No time we dump our stuff and jump on the bus. We are so excited and can't believe we are about to get up close and personal with one of the new 7 wonders of the world - Chitchen Itza.
We arrive as does the Cancun clan (yuck!) aka footy shirts, tats and big guts, for their spot of culture, it takes the shine off alittle.
We get to the first temple, whip out the camera and doh! battery is flat so soz no pics today - google it.....
Impressive site, in terms of scale, similar building style as Palenque and the other 3 Mayan sites we have visited over the course of the last 3 days.
We finish up two hours before our bus is due to pick us up, so hey its Michelada time! Bizarre thing happens the waiter starts acting weird wanting Maja to sign the receipt, Maja refuses - she knows how much her signature is worth! he then avoids us for the remainder of our lunch.
On our way out we purchase a mayan mask- and decide to send it back home to the UK in a few days time - how wrong we could be!
